Thanks all. I've no concern using the field. I can set it to upto 32000 characters. I was just concerned that this may mean that the DB storage for this type would be inefficient in any way. I can only assume that having the int2 field means that it will only store what is specified.

Subject: LCHR Data Type in a Table

Hi,

I am trying to use the lchr data type in a table. In order to activate the table I have to give a size for the LCHR field. I have also included a field of INT2 prior to this. Whenever I add a string to the lchr field it cuts it to the length in the DB table. Does this mean that the value I define is the max size an lchar can have? if so will it just allocate all this sapce for this table field everytime I save data in here? From my searching I cannot find many examples of using this lchr type and am thinking this is not a good type to employ?
