I believe you will find that the "asset value date" coming from the AA subledger transaction will populate both the "first acquisition on" and the "Capitalized on" dates in an asset's master data if both are blank beforehand. The "Capitalized on" date can be manually set beforehand. Whatever date gets stored in the "Capitalized on" date field will copy to the "ODep start date" but can be altered by depreciation convention such as the first day of the "Capitalized on" date's month, for example. The date can also be manually changed in the ODep start date field. When ordinary depreciation is calculated, it will usually be calculated from this starting date assuming the date is in the current fiscal year. Hope this helps. There is much to learn beyond this, such as whether the user utilizes the Post-Capitalization transaction code ABNAN and checks the post-cap button in the asset master as the asset record is created, and for another example whether smoothing is set for current year catch up. The depreciation key is ultra important as well as other period control settings. From a reporting perspective, depends on the open period(s) into which the acquisition can be recognized regardless of the start date for the depreciation calculated. Regards

As the field Asset acquisition is not open for input/migration, system takes the capitlization date as asset acquisition date. Can some one point out what is the relevance of Asset Acquisition date with respect to Depreciation calculation and from reporting perspective.
