Hi
With transaction code FCHU you can update the check number in the reference or assignment field. Then you can see the check number in the GL.

As per my understanding, It's not possible, please check your payment document number (FB03) and then go to menu Environment?Check Information, check number displayed here will be updated in your assignment field.
