Robert,
Got any good suggestions on how to combine items back at the
distribution center for shipment? The customer sends us one purchase
order with several items, some of the items are stocked and the others
are what we call make to order. We can split the order by defining the
supplying plant on the SD side so the demand goes to the plant that
actually will supply the parts, but the customer wants us to ship his
order together (many of them are container shipments). How do we know
that materials are coming from the manufacturing plant?

SAP is really set up to take a make to order sales order on the
manufacturing plant. Since it is a make to order item, would it not be
better to direct ship to the customer instead of double handling, if
there is flexibility in your business process. The other thing that
comes to mind is planning plant vs production plant. I have always set
them as the same but there might be a way to have the material planned
in the DC but produced in production plant. Could be a stretch but just
throwing out an idea.

We have one instance of ECC 6.0 with several supplying plants and
distribution centers. the distribution centers have been set up as
plants. Our problem is allowing for the manufacturing time, on products
we deem to be built to order, of the supplying plant and not keep
shipping the stock transport orders late or completing the prodution
orders late. The system will always use the planned delivery time in the
ordering plant plus the GR time in the ordering plant. The resulting
date becomes the requirement date in the supplying plant. If the
material is not in stock (which in this case it never is) the product
must be built. If the manufacturing time has been allowed for in the
planned delivery time - the production order will be late to the
required date. If the manufacturing time has not been allowed for the
shipment will be late. Sales orders act correctly, but we are using
stock transport orders. Any ideas??? All well thought out suggestions
are welcome.
