Reply from Paul Byrne on May 8 at 5:59 PM Hi Alexis, Access is a great tool for small bespoke databases. The problems begin with the fact that it is a Flat File and therefore difficult for many users to use it at the same time without building a VB or Web Front End, however not impossible. The Manager is working with what he knows and yes it can work but as a short term solution. The areas of concern that spring to mind are that SAP is built around Business Processes Access is not The Organisation has significant investment in SAP and now that looks like it could get written off. Access is scalable but not enough for your organisation. SAP builds its Business Solutions for Industries, unfortunately the System Implementation Team did not implement it correctly for your Organisation. The way forward should be to position Access as a Stop Gap Solution. Go and find a couple of really good SAP Consultants on a six month Contract to see what can be rescued from the SAP Implementation. You are looking for Low Hanging Fruit or Quick Wins where your Leadership Team can quickly see that the SAP Implementation and more specifically the cost can be rescued. I will be happy to help and guide you wherever possible. Regards, Paul Byrne

(Going on for about 6 years!) That being said they do not do their budgeting in SAP. A manager has come on board and has literally created this huge access file that basically is an ERP system. I am trying to build a case to go against using Access. I would like to encourage investing the resources to use SAP, the way it should be used. Can anyone please provide some points arguing this point? What are the disadvantages of using Access given that there is no SQL server either? Please let me know if my question is clear enough. Thanks, Alexis | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | | Paul Byrne Global Template Rollout Programme Manager | | _.____.__ |
