I think you have to be more specific because there is something incorrect in your enquiry. MD02 is the MRP run and does not create production orders. It eventually creates planned orders and the number range depends on the order profile that has been used. MD04 is used to display the current situation of a material and it's got nothing to do with this process at all.
If you have a production order that you want to delete, you can do so from transaction CO02, but it hasn't been created by any of the above transactions. Somebody must have done something else converting a planned order into a prod. order or something like that. During this process, he/she might have used the wrong order type triggering an unexpected number range.
