Now follow the path : Logistics -General>Material Master>Field Selection>Maintain Field Selection for Data.
In the Field selection group click F4 and and find for the field name MAKT-MAKTX. Click OK.
Now in the Field Selection, Search for your corresponding material type (Eg : ROH - Raw Materials)
Click on either required or optional button to make the material description field editable.
Finally save and then create a new material now.
