You should open screen and then LAYOUT.Just go to properties of the cell(by double click on it), just mark the checkbox named Upper/Lower case..
it should be OK.

i don't know if this would work, but maybe you could try to define the itab-text as 'type c lower case'.
example:
DATA: BEGIN OF itab OCCURS 0,
...,
text(40) type c lower case,
...,
END OF itab.
