Hi David

This sounds like a low-end SAN with low-end disk controllers.
A high-end SAN does not need this kind of setup.

Hi Lars-Erik,

I was on a project where after advice from HP we created a LUN for two data files. We had 12 data files therefore 6 LUNs we then created mount points and mounted them to sub folders on a single Drive letter:

E:\data1
E:\data2
E:\data3
...etc

This then improved the I/O quite considerably

Regards

Hi,

I think most installations which uses a SAN to store the data files, put all the data files in a single LUN on the SAN.

Apologies for being not clear ,
My question is related to SAP DAT Files only ( no log, archive files ), My OS is windows 2008 and DB is ORACLE.

I just wants to know that does only for SAP DATA FILES , do we use different partitions for a PRD environment ?
I have created few partitions from SAN for ECC PRD environment for log files and sap executable , however for SAP DATA files i have taken a single partition.
I just wants to know that what is the best practice for PRD environment for SAP DATA Files.
Right now I have taken only one partition for SAP DATA FILES.

Regards

> In an typical PRD environment , the sap data files ( not log files) should be taken in single partition or different partitions. we do have log partitions different on RAID1 .
