check the scheduling margin key on the mrp2 view of the material master. See what the scheduling margin key has for opening period. SAP takes the need date, backs off leadtime and determines a date to place the order. If it is within the opening period and you run mrp with your settings, it will generate a purchase req. If it is outside the opening period, it will create a planned order. You can set the create purchase req parameter to only create purchase reqs if you want

MRP generating planned order instead of PR(s) in consumption based planning.
We run MDBT with the following run parameters.
Plant 0005
Processing key NETCH
Create purchase req. 2
Schedule lines 3
Create MRP list 1
Planning mode 3
Scheduling 1
Planning date 11.03.2010
Display material list
Parallel processing
User exit key
User exit parameters
For a few components the system generates planned orders instead of Purchase Requisitions. We have compared the master data (MRP views 1-4; Source List and Info records ? almost identical ? these components are supplied by the same vendor and both are reorder point) for a controller where this issue occurred.
We the run MRP as above but entering a value into the user exit (The MRP Controller with the problem components). MRP deleted the planned order and generated purchase requisitions. We then rerun MRP as per the schedule. Back is the planned orders. We the run MD03 on the problem components and the planned order was deleted and purchase requisitions created. Any idea? We currently running SAP 4.6C
