Yes this is a shortcoming of ALV. The way I get around it is find a field that will have the same value populated in each entry. for example all our sold to's begin with a '1'. I do a wildcard find on the sold to column = Find 1* and check the display number of hits. Not pretty but it lets you get a count without exporting to excel
