Update and FYI - SAP has replied suggesting a note - 1875778 and they say our current sap prod is on 32 bit which could be the cause of this. However we do not have any other go but to do this on the same hardware.
There were some suggestions in the not which could help which says to update some parameter setting for oracle, I am still going through the notes.

If anyone has any suggestions on the below:
I have updated the Oracle DB statistics using Brconnect, but I am not sure if I should be creating a new one as I believe it could have negative impact on my current DB statistics ( MY current DB size is only 64GB)

Below are the challenges I am facing:
1875778 - Performance Optimization for System Copy Procedures
Issues with this note:
1) It says Update the DB statistics(if possible). We have run the update statistics before starting the sapinst/export. Also we are not planning to create new DB statistics because it could involve risk and may create problems in my old DB statistics.
2) Tune the DB parameters, here two notes are mentioned 936441 and 1918774
** note 936441 - Oracle settings for R3load based system copy:
Issues with this note: This is specifically for 64 bit, we need this for 32 bit( I could not find for 32bit in the solutions either)
** note 1918774 Performance issues when running an SAP Installation or System Copy
Issues with this note: In the section 4) Lack of ORACLE patches. it is not available for 9.2.x(our DB is oracle 9.2.0.6 and I could not find snote in solutions either)
3) Section Database independent:
**1)Make sure you are using the latest tools available
971645( not applicable in our case as this is for java)
971646 - 6.40 Patch Collection Hom./Het.System Copy ABAP( This is applicable but the media is not available)
**2) Update the kernel to the latest patch available- Kernel patches are not available for 640
**3) Use a local directory to perform the export- We are exporting on the same server on a different drive which has space.
**4) Several R3load processes- we are using standard process for 3 parallel loads
**5) Package splitter - non of our table size is too large for using this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Abhi

Subject: ECC5.0_NUC_ORACLE9i_WIN_2003_32bit to ECC6.0_EHP7_ORACLE12c_WIN_2012_r2_64bit

Hi Experts/Snowy/Kaus19d,

Please ignore the title, could not come up with anything better, Ecc5 upgrade didn't seem right to me :) as it gets me in trouble all the time ;)

Planning on using this blog for the upgrade.

I am working on a project where I have to upgrade

Current system(Source System)
ECC5- SAP ERP Central Component 5.0
Oracle 9.2.0.6.0
Kernel 640_101
Windows(Windows NT 5.0, Windows NT 5.1, Windows NT) 2003 32 bit
Non-Unicode system

TO
ECC6.0_EHP7
Oracle 12c
Windows 2012R2
Unicode

My Plan- A is to create a system copy from current PRD and import on OS- win_64 and Oracle 10g or 11g (hope this works).

As per my plan I started my upgrade by creating a sandbox by homogeneous system copy of the prod, this was my first step and I was performing this using the R3load and in that process It was hung in the "Database Export Phase" by running the R3szchk for 18 hours ( DB size is only 64 GB and there was only 31 % CUP utilization).

I have checked some of the scn articles which suggested me to do the update statistics before starting( which I forgot to do initially), so I ran the Update statistics using the BRTools and BRconnect which took 5 hours to complete.

I assumed this should resolve my long running process and I started the sapinst using the R3load again but it was still the same. As I mentioned earlier the kernel is 640 there were no patches available at SMP if there was an issue with R3load/R3szchk (I have raised a message to get these patches available on SMP).
Then I came across this note"143056 - INST: 4.5B R/3 Inst. - Homogeneous System Copy" that has detailed notes for help and I see that there are some changes which needs to be done at the parameter level to get this fixed.

Apparently I was not able to get through the ones which are for ECC5.0, I could see them for R/3 4.x.

That's all I could get so far.

PLAN B: Creating a new Sandbox with oracle9i and Ecc5 NUC (fresh install as Prd) then do a offline backup of PRD and restore on Sandbox.

But I wish to get my PLAN- A Fixed by some Mantra that the Experts could help me with :), because I see risk with PLAN- B.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks,
Abhi
