Just to detail Neal's response a little more...
I think you will want to look at SAP's Business Application Interface known by the moniker BAPI.
If you Google 'VBA BAPI' there will be lots of practical examples of how to establish a connection.
The coding to send and retrieve data is somewhat odd, but it can be done.

Subject: Connecting SAP R/3 to Access using ODBC

Hello everyone,

I am new here and I was wondering if anyone had a solution on how to link SAP R/3 to an Access database interactively using ODBC? When I go into my computer and search for the SAP R/3 tables, I only find the front end stuff, none of them contain any tables where the data is stored, could it be that I am searching in the wrong place? Also I am using the ODBC from Access, I don't have an ODBC program installed on my computer, could that be the problem?
