Hi Sandip *Depreciation* , as you may be aware , is a process of expensing out your asset based on its *usage *and *functionality*. Therefore, it is customary to charge depreciation based on the *estimated useful life *of the asset. This means that depreciation is basically dependent on the* time*factor. However, there may be occasions when you have an asset which has an estimated life of 5 years but you are not , for some reason or the other, using the asset during the third year. In such case , there is no need for you to depreciate the asset in that year. It is quite possible to stop depreciating an asset temporarily. In every asset class ( in the depreciation area section of the asset class ) you would have a tab called as *time-dependent*. Please look for the depreciation area(s) of your asset master record for this tab and you can ( as Brady007 rightly suggested ) change the depreciation key to 0000 ( which depreciates the asset with 0 % ) specifying the time interval ( viz. 01 Jan 2010 to 28 Feb 2010 , for example ) during which you would not want depreciation to happen. Then you can make one more entry to start calculating depreciation as before from 01.03.2010 by creating one more time interval . Though I have not tried it myself, you could possibly explore another option. In the depreciation area section of the asset master record, you would have a check box ( for each depreciation area ) known as asset shut-down. May be you could activate this and depreciation calculate does not happen as long as the asset remains shut down. This is common in factories where a machine might have been shutdown for maintenance / repairs for a few months and therefore being prevented from depreciating during such shut down period. You could possibly try it out. What ever method you try to use, please make sure that you do it with the concurrence of your senior consultant ( especially if you are on a production system).
