Our central instance server having slow
response times yesterday . If we look performance history we cant see
where the CPU or RAM ever really spiked, however the process monitoring
screen indicates that there are several SAP processes eating up more
than 1GB of RAM. This server only has 16GB's of RAM but the process
monitor indicates that it is using more than that, just for SAP. It
looks like a little less than half of the memory usage exist in actual
RAM, and the rest is being paged. Paging also seems a little high. I
have two questions.

1.) Why does paging always seems to be so high?

2.) Why does the SAP work processes hold on to so much RAM even when
they are not using any CPU? It seems to me that the processes never
release any RAM back into the pool once they have claimed it.
