I had a DIA instance once where the send mail (RSCONN01) job was running very slowly. Some sort of strange host issue; never got a root cause. I started another copy of the send mail job (RSCONN01) on a second DIA instance while the same job was still running on the first DIA instance.
The second occurrance of the job processed all the outstanding items from SOST, except the one single message that the first occurance of the job still had locked. That one message was sent when the first job finally completed. I did that many times and never had any problems with contention between the two.
I guess it's also possible that the receiving email server is the bottleneck, although I believe it's more likely to find the issue inside the SAP system somewhere.
Are the SAPoffice reorg jobs being run in this system? If 10K+ email per day, they probably should be...

Hi Kim,
It might be an idea to schedule the job more often so it only has to process fewer e-mails.
But you can only start this when this long job is complete.
Also start Tx SM50 and view the tables that are being accessed. Check to see if the table statistics are updated and double click on the work process to see the SQL Statement and check to see is an additional Secondary Index might be required.
When last did you get SAP to perform an EarlyWatch Check? You get 2 free checks a year. Let SAP know that you have a large ammount of e-mails to be processed. SAP might suggest other recommendations.
