I'm not sure why a Space doesn't work for you. According to the Help for
the "fixed" field:
"The text is copied into the document. Changes to the document text do not
have any effect on the original text and changes to the original text have
no effect on the document text." Space does not mean "do not fix" - it
means "automatically adopt".
Of course, changing these settings can only have an effect on documents
created _after_ the change. You were testing with new documents, weren't
you?

Thank You...There was another response to my question saying to change the
config under
> Material s Management > Purchasing > Purchase Order > Texts for Purchase
Orders > Define Copying Rules for Item Texts.
This is definately not it. I played with the settings in sandbox and if you
put a * it defaults the Material Master Text in the PO...if you "blank" it
(do not FIX) the text does not appear in the Material Master. The setting
was a * and the Material Master Text is appearing in the PO Long Text BUT if
we change the PO text in the material master...it updates all historic
purchase orders. I have searched the IMG under "Text Determination", Copy vs
reference etc...nothing is coming up. I'm thinking there must be other
configuration to "copy" vs "reference" as you suggest but cannot locate it.
Can you direct me as to where this config is (menu path)???
