Hi,

I am nor sure I agree with Didik here. You can upgrade the OS and the database and kernel without exporting the database.
There should be no need to do that at all.
However I do agree that you should perform this using a sandbox first. You need to practice this process to understand all the steps. Besides the Wiki, Lars-Erik listed there are a number of SAP notes describing a kernel upgrade.

Regards

Subject: Upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 in the same server.

> Hello,
I need to upgrade from a SAP 4.6C with Oracle 8.1.7.4 and Solaris 8 to SAP ECC 6.0 with Oracle 10.2.04 and Solaris 10. in my case, I have read that the necessary main steps previous to the upgrade are:
1) Upgrade de Operating system first, from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10.
2) Upgrade the Database systems Oracle from 8.1.7.4 to 9 and from 9 to 10.2.04.
3) Upgrade the Kernel of 4.6C (46d) to a new Kernel so it recognizes the new versions of Oracle (server and client)
Before reading the tons of documentation about upgrade, I would like to know:
1) If the previous operations are possible in the same server where I currently have the SAP 4.6C with Oracle 8.1.7.4 and Solaris 8.
2) If the previous question is affirmative, how could I perform the third point? i.e. Upgrade the kernel of 4.6c?.?
My best regards.
