Upon further research, we also found that the user is defaulting to User-specific layouts and the checkbox is greyed out so we can not deselect it.
The user has no parameter ID that would designate user specific layouts.
About your comment that within the transaction the preferred variant ID can be specified, do you know how in transaction FBL5N they can the preferred variant ID to something else?
