Are you Oracle 10^ if so, what patches were installed?
I had a similar problem. the ABAP team changed their SQL request to make sure that the fields in the "where" clause of the SQL request is mapped to an index..
we also modified a few Oracle parameters that helped:
_optimizer_better_inlist_costing=OFF
optimizer_dynamic_sampling=2
This is for Oracle 10.2.0.4 with minipatch 8 on Windows platform. __.____._
