Mary Ann,

I think you need to read a little more about how capacity planning works
in general and specifically how SAP capacity planning works as your
concept is not quite correct. While I am not a PP-Capacity planning
expert, I have set up a simple capacity planning on two SAP
implementations and I am also an APICS instructor. The capacity
planning functionality of SAP follows the APICS capacity planning model
closely; as it does in most of the SCM modules. Normally capacity
planning will not block the release of an order because capacity is not
available; it will show you that you that there is an overload on that
work center. The next step is dispatching. This is where you assign
specific orders to specific work centers. This is where the system can
provide help based on the available capacity. There is a graphical
method and a table method that can be used. There is a function called
"finite loading" which does block the release of an order due to
capacity, but I strongly suggest you don't go there until you have
significant successful experience in using the standard capacity
management process. The reason is that most people need to spend time
understanding exactly how SAP loads the work center and more importantly
how it reduces that load. In both of the implementations where I set up
the capacity planning, they stopped using it because they were not
willing to work through all of the details of the system load
representing the actual shop floor load.

Hope this helps

Subject: [sap-log-pp] Capacity planning set-up

Hi Team,

We would like to set-up the capacity planning in all our work centers in
1 plant.

Our purpose is that for example a work center is set-up to work only at
16 hrs per day. If for a certain day, there are already 2 PrdOrds
scheduled in a day and it will use-up the work center for 16 hrs. Then
if there is a new PrdOrd to be released again in the same day for
production, then system should not allow it for scheduling on the same
work center but will suggest for another work center which available.

thanks,
