Hi,
This is up to every system administrator to decide. I'm always using
autoextend in my systems.
I believe that is the recommendations from SAP, as well. Afterall all the
new SAP systems on Oracle are all installed with autoextend activated by
default. However, I know some admins want to deactivate it to have better
control, but do you really get better control? Maybe you get better control
on the data file growth, but it might cause more downtime on the system, if
not handeled correctly. That's my experience, anyway.

Regards,
LEH

DB02, Alerts Database Check
I got the following messages:
CRITICAL_FILE
File: /oracle/<sid>/sapdata1/sr3_1/sr3.data1, value: (max_extn) 7639040 KB
(> 4358592 KB) # File autoextend can cause file system
I have to change the max_extn or turn off autoextend for data file. I want
to turn off autoextend for all the datafiles, but just keep the last one
datafile with autoextend, what do you think?
CRITICAL_TABLESPACE
Tablespace: PSAPSR3 # Tablespace files autoextend can cause file system
overflow
I think I should turn off autoextend in all tablespaces to have a better
control, but the problem I have is when I add a new datafile the space used
in filesystem is increased and I don?t have a lot of space. I?m not sure if
I should reduce the new datafile size or keep autoextend on.
Regards,
Mav
