However, Bank Key is a unique number assigned by the central bank (apex bank) in a country for all banks operating within a given country. In countries like Germany, The Bank Number and the Bank Key are the same. This is a unique identity of each bank operating in a country. As you can infer, bank key and bank number are country specific and are local. IBAN (International Bank Accounting Number) and Swift code (The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) are unique numbers which are similar to Bank Key / Bank Number. However, IBAN and SWIFT codes are used in International Banking Transactions. Therefore , they are global and not local ( though they serve the same purpose to identify a given bank ). Bank Account Number is the account number allotted by the bank to the account holder ( this is the same as the number you see on your bank pass book ). Bank account number is a unique identity offered by a bank to each of its customers. Hope that sounds clear.
