You never add fields to an existing IDoc segment. You create a custom segment or segments and attach it (or them) to a basic type and create an extended type. Then you write ABAP code in a user exit to populate or process those segments. Good luck.

Subject: SAP custom IDOC segment extension

Hi,

I'd add new fields to an existing outbound (custom) IDOC header segment but its length is 987 characters..... And I'd add more fields to so it'd exceed the maximum possibly length (1.000 ch).

How I'd solve this problem ? Anyway, the existing IDOC was created in BW version 700, but now we have 701... So I can not edit it because the versions are different.

I'm wondering that using 'Extension' tool of WE30 would work, but I am not sure, since not familiar with IDOCS so much.

Or using 'Qualified' segment for header as 1st header line and 2nd header line...
I guess after that I'd check all its processing blocks to update header segment processing also according to the changes...:)

Anway, I'll have the same problem for another, but NEW custom (inbound) IDOC also.

Please tell me if you have had similar problem before, or have any usefull idea.

Thanks for all in advance.

Br,
Peter
