Hi,

it looks like your database was not really OFFLINE when you backed it up... or your did not restore your files properly. check origlog/mirrlog date and time stamps. compare with data files date/time.

finally, I would gibe you the path to origlog* files 1 by 1 until you receive message "Media recovery complete".

Subject: Not able to recover QAS from PRD offline snapshot

Hi,

We are trying to restore R/3 QAS system(DB refresh) from offline snapshot of R/3 PRD system. We are able to start the database in nomount and mount mode ,while opening database in OPEN mode it is asking for more redolog files for recovery to be consistent. We have applied few redolog files and it kept asking for more redolog files and we are not able to start the database in OPEN mode. Actually it should not ask for redolog files or recovery if we are doing it from offline snapshot. We use SNAPSHOT manager to take the backup of database.
We have performed the same steps on our BW systems and we were able to restore BW QAS from BW PRD offline snapshot. It has not asked for any redolog files to start the database. The only difference between R/3 and BW systems is R/3 is in clustered environment while BW is not clustered.
R/3 PRD system ; R/3 QAS system (R/3 4.7, Oracle 10.2 and Windows server 2003)
BW PRD system ; BW QAS system( BW 3.5 , Oracle 10.2 and Windows server 2003)
Why the system would ask for redo logs if we are using offline snapshot?
- problem with the cluster resources and database is not really shutdown properly
- problem with the snapshot of a cluster
The following is the R/3 QAS recover log. Any inputs would be appreciated.

SQL> startup;
ORACLE instance started.

I have applied the required redolog files ,but it kept asking more redolog files. Actually it should not ask redolog files for offline snapshot restore.

Vishal
