I would really question the entire premise on which this is
based. What is the business requirement? Why does the client
want to make this change? It is a lot of work for very
little benefit as far as I can see.

We had to do something similar - but more radical, as it was a change to the entire chart of accounts, and we resorted to creating a new company code, and performed a migration, like new implementation, but instead, it was from R/3 to R/3, so the complexity was much less. Still, a bit effort.

>> Hello, I got the question from my customer : What is the impact of changing the length of a gl account from 8 to 9. There is a need. Anybody experience with this excersise. Knowing that the chart of account is linked to a company code and also to a controlling area? Creating a new chart of account could be option but for me it is not due to the fact that it is linked to the company code and controlling area. What I could do is use the group chart of account, but this is also not an option because I will run into a mapping issue. So I think what we will need to do change the length of the operational chart of account. Create all the accounts with a length of 9. Then do a transfer from the accounts with length of 8 to accounts lenght of 9. Once the transfer is done, block all the accounts with a length of 8 or even better archive them. Any suggestions on how to do this would be usefull.
