Yes, that is the newer BAPI, and the current BAPI you are using is indeed no longer maintained. That does not mean it is bad, but you might see if that will speed things up, for it is newer and might remove some performance constraints. I have never done a comparison of the two personally. I almost suggested a WHILE loop myself, but never found them useful, sometimes rather pointless processing.
