Hi Lily.

We have a similar situation where we have multiple products being manufactured within the one factory, some belonging to one profit centre and others to a second profit centre and so on.

We are fine with this being in a single plant as each of those products can have their own unique profit centre applied to them for profitability analysis purposes.

One issue we have is that sometimes there are components that are shared between products of differing profit centres and if there is an adjustment of some sort for that component material such as a stock take adjustment posting or a purchase price variance posting and so on then that adjustment entry will be applied to the profit centre for that component material. You may not have that issue, and even if you do the idea of having a separate plant for each machine/end product does not fully solve the problem. In fact it can cause other stock movement issues.

So I also think having a single plant is the best solution.

Regards,
Ken

Subject: Can't Decide Number of Plants

Dear Sirs/ Madams

Kindly help with my problem.

Currently, we are implementing SAP in our tissue manufacturing company. All our machines (paper machines and converting machines) are located in one location with one company code. We have four paper machines producing jumbo roll tissue and one converting area consisting of machines which convert jumbo roll tissue into small packed tissue (napkin & handkerchief, like tissue sold in supermarket).

Our top management requires Profit and Loss report for every paper machine and one for converting (so total is 5 profit and loss report) with one balance sheet.

we sell jumbo roll tissue and tissue in small pack (like the ones sold in supermarket)

We have different material code for Jumbo roll tissue (finished goods) produced by every paper machine (material code carrying the Paper Machine number).
When Jumbo Roll Tissue are requested by converting line for production (convert into small pack tissue), as Raw material in Converting, it carries the same material number as it is in jumbo roll.

I need advice in deciding the number of plant. Some people told me that I should have five plants and other told me that I should only have one plants.

Kindly advise me

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards,
Lily
