Is it possible that the cost object is a production order? This is typical of material consumption accounts. In this case, no cost center posting is necessary (nor would you want one?)
CO requires a cost object for cost element postings, so it would be very strange if you cannot find one in your posting. Check the CO document in the posting - a cost object should be listed.

Profit center is not a cost object- there must be something else- like order, sales order, WBS element.

What is the cost element category of the account -check it in KA03? If your entry had only profit center, very likely, it is category 11 or 12.

I clarified what FSG is but do not suggest that route without knowing everything. If you make it mandatory, that may create additional problem,
