my two cents: the field could have a name that references a ddic structure, (example name zstructflagsmara and there could be a structure defined with that name and with specific field names for each char. then in the code, move mara-structflagsmara to zstrucflagsmara and you can reference zstruct-flagsmara-fieldn to test whether fieldn is set or not.
