You have not specifically said that the GL account you are researching using FAGLL03 is a primary cost element, but I assume that it is. Keep in mind that when posting to a primary cost element, you need a cost collector - and that need not be a cost center (which is what you are assuming it was, using KSB1). It could also have been posted to using an internal order (in which case, try KOB1 for the same cost element).
I don't understand your comment about not being able to see prior periods postings using FAGLL03. That transaction code does not care whether a period is open or closed - it is just a line item report. You can look into postings back into prior years, if need be.

I have a situation where I am trying to poll for data on a GL account (FI data) using a custom report on the one hand and KSB1 (primary cost element, CO data) on the other. There is a discrepancy in the totals for the reports and I need to figure out why.
I have a document that has some of the numbers/transactions that show up in the custom GL report and others that show up in KSB1. However, there are numbers/transactions that do not.
I tried tcode fagll03 to peek into the data for the G/L account; however, the period is closed and the data is not visible to me.
Are there any other options/tools that I can check to figure this out? Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
