Hi Rajasekar While I have attempted to explain the concept of open item management in layman's terms, a more precise and technically correct narration of which accounts need open item management has been provided very well by Sumit and Jhansipriya. I suggest that you pay attention to the kind of accounts (viz. all clearing accounts requiring an offsetting posting. May be GR/IR clearing, Salary clearing, Bank clearing sub accounts, customer and vendor line items, any other receivable and payable which happens in two or more steps in terms of time and therefore requiring follow up) referred to by the other contributors in this thread.
