I believe that Unplanned Depreciation adjustments can never impact depreciation in the current period (month).

In subsequent periods, the monthly amount will be different from the previously planned amounts if the depreciation is based on the remaining book value divided by remaining useful life.

Subject: Can monthly depreciation be recalc'd after unplanned depreciation is taken?

Asset with original value of $4Million was originally depreciating at $67K per month (life of 5 Yr 0 Pd). Capitalization date of 6/10/2009 in Legacy system. After 12 months of depreciation, and during the first month after migrating from Legacy system to SAP, business took $600K in unplanned depreciation. After taking the unplanned depreciation, the asset continues to depreciate at the original rate of $67K per month. Business expected depreciation to drop over the remaining life of the asset to $54K/month. Is there anything that can be done to the asset to adjust the depreciation amount?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Kind regards,
Cathy Helgeson
