We now have a shipment user exit that grabs the next available PRO # at the time the shipment is planned (we put it in the External ID1 field). This PRO # comes from a Z table that we pre-populate with PRO numbers supplied by the carriers for our plants.
And then the next issue is how we populate this Z table with PRO #s. Right now we're planning to use spreadsheets to generate the PRO numbers according to the respective carrier rules - some of which require some interesting steps to generate a check digit (multiply every other digit by 2, add the products together if they are less than 10, sum the remaining digits, round the sum up, close your eyes & click your heels three times). You get the idea.
I'm not completely happy with this approach but it's the best we have right now.
How does everyone else handle PRO assignments in the shipment document? I'm open to suggestions....thanks for your help!
