Hi Peter,
Please refer the snote#365304 for the same. you might want to use ZTABDEL
report for deleting big tables manually....u will find these program/report
in this note.
Please also check the no. of records present in ACCTCR table, its might be
big table and client deletion always take time to delete big tables like
MSEG, ACCTIT, ACCTCR etc... so please use sap customized reports & steps
mentioned in note for faster deleting of client. Thanks.

I think it should be faster doing it from O/S level, but not sure if it will have less problem / issue.
