I am also interested in how others have achieved the configuration of contractors in SAP.
Just to be clear, I am just a Data Architect and not an SAP expert. We do extract data from SAP into what we call an ODS(Operational data store) which is then accessed by rest of the company wanting to get information on any kind of human resource.
What I have seen is that at our implementation(we were R4.7 and then went to ECC6 for HR module only) the use of EG and ESG was not done consistently. Some values of EG indicate the status of the relationship between human resource and organization, while ESG indicates the relationship type.
In other instances, EG is defining the relationship type, while status is completely missing.
When you add in Personnel area, Personnel Sub-area and Payroll area, things get more complicated.
I think we are struggling to get a common definition for Contractor in our organization. Each department has there own, while the management at the top uses generic terms to defining a human resource without going into specifics of the relationship type.
