Wow 3000 storage locations seems a bit extreme - could you please explain the business process, scenarios that drive such a setup

Could anyone please comment on a situation where we are about to implement one Plant and close to 3000 SLOC's. Can anyone see any disadvantages in this scenario. Need to be clear that we will not be running into any brick walls in the future. Thanks in advance.
