Dear David,
I am running Netweaver 2004 on windows 2003 server with oracle 9.02
I have read the following link and followed exactly the same procedure.
I downloaded the latest kernal from sap site, which is 303 something and replaced with my old one which was 43.
First i took the backup of old kernal and then paste all new kernal files into E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\RUN. Turn on all the services, by login as sidadm and using disp+work i could see the latest karnal is there which is 303 something and when i login to sap system (which takes forever after kernal update), i go to sm51 and release notes i see the latest kernal is there.
But why MMC status shows that strdbs.cmd could not be connected and its red?
I guess because of this, i can not take the sap backup by going to db13 (it does not run???)
Plus my system is very slow after upgrading sap kernal.
After putting all OLD kernal files into E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\run, everything runs fine so this problem is related to new kernal files.
As i mentioned earliar that under E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe i have three folders such as dbg, run, opt and one file UNINSTSAP.EXE.
Kindly advise, why my system does not accept new kernal and it gets slow and strdbs.cmd status is could not be connected and its red.
Thank you,
IRF RAZ

Hi Irf,
Did you read the Wiki
http://it.toolbox.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_update_ SAP_Kernel
You do not mention the Version of SAP and the location of the kernel was
different in earlier versions
Do not delete any files in the Current Kernel locations. Decompress the
Kernel files in a separate directory and then copy the files into:
E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\
And
E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\run

Hi David,
I have E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\ and under EXE folder i have dbg folder, run
folder, opt folder and one file call UNINSTSAP.EXE. I have copied all latest
kernal file under E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\run folder but i can't find
E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\nuc\<machine type> (the one you mentioned) location.
However, i deleted the file call strdbs.cmd file from my current kernal path
E:\usr\sap\IRF\SYS\exe\run (which i copied from my old kernal folder and
pasted in my latest kernal folder). My SAP system is very slow and in MMC
strdbs.cmd status is red and status is "database could not be connected".
Kindly help and advise me the solution step by step. I will really
appreciate it.
Regards,
Irf Raz

Hi Irfaz,
You must copy the Kernel files to the following location:
E:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\exe\nuc\<Machine type>
Do not worry about :
C:\Program Files\sapinst_instdir\NW04SR1\WEBAS_ABAP_ORA_NUC\DB this was for
the installation.
Follow the wiki:

Hello,
I updated Kernal from 43 to 304. After updating my kernal patch strbs.cmd in
mmc was red and could not be connected. I followed the following procedure.
1- I checked startsrv.exe version at E:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run and
C:\Program Files\sapinst_instdir\NW04SR1\WEBAS_ABAP_ORA_NUC\DB .
2- startsrv.exe version was old at C:\Program
Files\sapinst_instdir\NW04SR1\WEBAS_ABAP_ORA_NUC\DB so i replaced this file
from E:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run.
3- Started the services but still strbs.cmd was not conneted and showed me
red status
4- I copied strbs.cmd file from my old kernal (patch 43) into the new folder
It worked fine. Kindly advise if the above procedure is fine.
Thank you,
Raz
