Keesie,
The Settlement Response function is optional, but there is certainly no reason not to use it. It is typically used to indicate that the processor received the batch file. I'd caution against using it to try to update the individual transaction records as the system will reverse any items marked as "failed" without giving you the opportunity to review them first and it is a pain to clean those up manually.
You should just use the CCARD_SETTLEMENT_RSP_EXECUTE function itself. Your external application should simply call that function directly passing in the settlement header details (and line item details if you're brave) and SAP will do the rest.

Credit Card Settlement: Settlement answer: FM CCARD_SETTLEMENT_RSP_EXECUTE
All,
I have a question about credit card settlement and response from the clearing house (bank). We created our own function module to send over the settlement data (basically a copy of CCARD_SETTLEMENT_SIMULATION) and assigned it in the configuration. How about the settlement response? Do we need to create a new function module (or copy CCARD_SETTLEMENT_SIMULATION) and assign the FM as the Settlement Answer in the configuration for Set Authorization/Settlement Control per Account?

Keesiee
