[sap-log-sd] Batch selection in sales orders

We want to be able to select a specific batch of material in a sales order and once it is in the order, make it impossible to pick or issue that batch, unti lthe dleivery for that sales order is created. This is not a make-to-order scenario but a selection from stock. We have R3 4.7 and run MRP and WM. We can see that is is possible to specify a batch no. in the sales order but this does not 'allocate' that batch to the order. I can also see that such an 'allocation' would have to tie in with MRP activity. It seems to me that such a requirement must be common to many businesses and so there ought to be a SAP solution ready and waiting for this (?). Any help gratefully received.
