Reply from ChrisO on Apr 20 at 12:43 PM As far as international country i.d. is concerned, Northern Ireland is part of 'GB' (as are England, Scotland, and Wales). If your business is saying that the VAT no. does not match when the address is entered with 'GB' then there must be something wrong with the VAT no. they are using. GB VAT numbers have the format GB followed by 9 digits.
A double check that you can apply is the post code of the address - if it is in Northern Ireland then it will have a post code that begins BT... (format "BTnn nXX", where n=number and X=letter) If the post code does not begin "BT..." then the address is not in Northern Ireland.

Technically, the combination of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is "The United Kingdom" (UK) and "Great Britain" is the island that comprises England, Scotland, Wales. So the "United Kingdom" is "Great Britain and Northern Ireland". But, for some reason, business uses "GB" to mean "UK".

Business is asking me why we don't have Northern Ireland as a country in SAP and if it cannot be set up. When I look for more details I can find on the web Northern Ireland is not a country but part of Great Britain.
That said, IF they put GB as country then the VAT number does not match with the requirements for GB. If they put IE as country then the VAT number matches with requirements but country is incorrect.
How is this handled in other companies? |
