A Plant Maintenance BOM (BOM Usage 4) seems to fit your need. In SAP PM and CS Customer Service, that are a key part of the master data. PM BOMs are a natural extension of finding the right Equipment that needs to be serviced.
The header can be a Material, Equipment, or Functional Location. If CAR XXX is already a Material, then that can be the header. Should work for any Material.
At each level, you can put many components to CAR XXX, as you show above. The components can be Materials or text (or other options).
To create multiple levels, you create another BOM for the component. For instance, Engine can be a component under CAR XXX. Then another BOM for Engine could have as components pistons, head assembly, block, oil pan, etc. Then another BOM for Head Assembly could have rocker arms, valves, etc. A Structure Display shows the BOMs together, with expanding drill down.
You can also create Material Type IBAU assemblies, which serve only to group the sub-levels. In your example, Body could be an IBAU. You don't stock/sell Body, but rather LF Quarter Panel, Front Grill, Front Bumper.

I would like to know if some of the BOM usages allow to use BOM as an informational use only. I mean we would not like the BOM to have any effect in MRP, sales, production (we don't do production, only retail), pricing etc..
Basically it is just for our employees to more easily find product. Our industry is a bit complicated, but basically it's just that we would category our products as:
CAR XXX
- Engine
- 0X0456 Oil filter
- etc...
- Body
- 1X357 Mirror
- 1X358 Mirror glass
- 1X359 Mirror cover
- etc..
Now our technical person would easily find a mirror glass for a specific model, but if we want to order Mirror, MRP would not suggest Mirror glass etc.. So it would only be used to find correct products, that is, informational only. Or is there any better way to achieve this? The number of sub categories should be unlimited.
