Go to material master, basic data 1, field Authorization Group (MARA-BEGRU).
You can assign here a key with 4 characters, and if activated in Security only those users with this value in their SAP Role are going to be able to do maintenance to this material record (in its master data).
Example:
Material # 123456789 you assign Auth. Group: 0001
Material # 987654321 you assign Auth. Group: 0002
Then user "A" have Role to do MM02 but will need assignment (inside the role) to Auth. Group 0001 to be allow to do maintenance to material 123456789.
If for an specific material XXXXXX you leave Auth. Group in blank, then any user with role to enter MM02 can change it.
Look up this field in material master and contact any SAP Role specialist.

My customer wants each material to be tied to 5 different individuals/roles who are responsible for different aspects from material master perspective- i.e. buyer; commodity manager, QA person, strategic buyer and one other. Has anyone done this? are there any fields on Material master besides Purchasing group that can be used for this?
