Reply from LCC352 on Sep 9 at 11:35 PM Hi, Layla - My first question would be "why"? This is not something one does lightly. It would appear that not enough thought was put into the original design, and your client is trying to make up for that now. Depending on how much data is already in the database, this could be a very difficult transformation. Remember that cost centers may appear in all types of areas such as project system for settlement purposes, default cost centers for inventory, SD, Plant Maintenance, validations and substitutions in FI and other areas of other modules. For you to change the cost centers in CO will not change all the other items around CO. And don't forget the profit centers - are they changing as well or only the cost centers? The profit centers and their relationship to the cost centers will bring their own issues. That said, your client needs to know that you will not be able to delete the old cost centers. If there is 1 penny against a cost center, SAP will not allow you to delete it, even if the balance is zero. You can "block" it by flipping some flags on it. Second, your client will have to decide how they wish to port the data from the old cost centers to the new. Remember that the prior posting periods in FI will all be closed. Bringing detail across will make everything appear that it was booked in current month. One way around that might be to make CO-only postings, but that may not be possible if you have cross-company transactions in the mix. In any case, this is not a simple task and should not be thought as such. Planning for this will be crucial. - Lou

Can anyone let me know what is the impact of change cost center structure? The client is requesting to change cost center structure meaning define a new cost center structure with different number and description. And the old cost center that define earlier will not be use anymore. However, there are many transaction have been posted to the old cost center. May I know what is the impact, if I delete all the old cost center and define a new one? Appreciate your response! Thank you very much!
