Did it not work because you couldn't get it to print on wider paper, or did you get it to print on wider paper, but the font was still too small? And, of course, for the wider paper to do any good it would have to also print in landscape mode. Did yours print in landscape mode?
We dealt with this issue some years ago by creating some custom "format types" for REALLY wide ALV grids. Here is a link to an SCN article on creating custom format types:
