Please try to check infotype 0006 setting in the back-end system:
transaction SPRO -> Personnel Mgmnt -> ESS -> Service-Specific Settings -> Own Data -> Define Active Subtypes and App. Case - here you will find cases of validity period which can be A1, A2..., B1,... Check if it is OK.
Also this information can be reached via SE16 -> T7XSSPERSUBTYPE.

Subject: ESS Error in Updating Address records
An issue when trying to change Address records via Employee Self Service.
If using the "edit" button, it is possible to enter a new address, but when the review button is clicked, an error is displayed stating "Start date must be 05.01.2012 or later.
"If using the New Address buttons, a critical error displays:Type conversion error field Begda This is seen after EHP5 upgrade
