Hello Anita,
I think I understand the basic idea now, thank you. I do not know for sure whether this is a common practice.
Maybe our colleagues in the forum have opinions with respect to this one?

I personally am always careful with manipulations of local hosts files in a network, as I experienced some side effects in the past, esp. when "connecting" the system to other systems, i.e. at least SAP Solution Manager. But then again, you say that you want to remove the entry later, which is what I was pointing at, too.

Thank you for the explanation.
With best regards
Robin

Subject: System Copy for Netweaver CE with Environmental Compliance add on

Hi Robin,

Sorry I will do my best to explain my idea with the hosts file. Basically as I have mentioned I am taking a DB backup of prod and refreshing test system. If I add the prod server to the hosts file on the test server, my thought was that after test is refreshed and I start the system up, if there are any references to the prod system still (that I have missed to change on initial start up) then any thing that runs will still only hit the test system. Therefore it is a way of isolating the servers (and protecting unwanted processes running from test to prod).

After I am sure all the config on test after it is refreshed has been changed (and there are no references to prod) then I would remove the entry in the hosts file.

Hope that makes more sense

Ta
Anita
