Subject: SAP specifications

Hello - I am an Oracle functional consultant with 12 years of experience. I am quite good at what I do.
My client has both SAP R3 and Oracle EBS. I have zero SAP experience but for some reason, my client has asked me to setup
1) SAP Document Management system
2) Specifications Management (which is part of EHS)
I will be working alongside a very good SAP PLM consultant but only for a short time. I would like my sessions with him to be as productive as possible. I don't want to waste his time on basic questions. So I am turning to the net.
This forum is the first one I found.
Is this the right forum for SAP PLM/DMS?
If not, do you have any suggestions?
If yes, can you point me to some documents/white papers that describe how to setup DMS and Specifications Management?
As I understand, I also need to learn about characteristics and classes because they integrate tightly with Specification management. Can you point to some documents that describes that?
Thank you,
