We have a requirement to set up a night shift starting on Monday at 00:00 and ending at 06:00 ie 6 hours, followed by a second night shift starting Monday at 22:00 and ending on Tuesday at 06:00 ie 8 hours. The Sunday before these nights shift is a FREE day. The employees are therefore effectively working two shifts on the Monday, total 14 hours.
We use positive time evaluation therefore employees clock in before the start of the midnight shift and during pair formation the day assignment of this first clock in is (correctly) set as Sunday. I know it isn't possible to amend the day assignment of this time record to the following day. The clock out is set to previous day to complete the time pair. The second time pair is correctly generated for the Monday 22:00 to Tuesday 06:00 shift.
I have had some difficulties configuring this scenario and the best solution I can come up with (although it isn't perfect) is by creating a Sunday night shift starting at 23:59 and ending Monday at 06:00, followed by the Monday night shift starting 22:00 and ending 06:00 Tuesday. The first shift isn't strictly speaking correct because I have set it to start on a Sunday and the actual shift is really on Monday.
An additional requirement is for any pre-shift hours worked to be counted as potential overtime hours. Employees may come into work on the Sunday evening and clock in any time from 18:00 to 23:59 then continue working until 06:00 on Monday. To enable overtime to be generated for these additional hours worked, we need to set the shift start tolerance as 15 minutes.
The scenario I currently have configured means that basic hours for the first shift are generated as 6:02 and overtime hours are generated as eg 0:98 because of the 23:59 start time and because I am effectively treating it as a Sunday night shift. Although these differences are fairly minor, they do require manual checking and adjustments to be made when the hours are uplifted into payroll.
We have quite a lot of night shifts already and they all work perfectly but this one has got me puzzled. I have found a SAP note 336994 which suggests we write a program to "force" the first clocking forward to midnight but I am hoping there may be another way.
I have looked at dynamic DWS assignments, and also checked the PDC processing status correctly assigns clockings to the previous day but this hasn't really helped.
Any advice, help, or suggestions would be gratefully received !
