it is not too obvious, but this is one you need to add to your system copy steps. make a backup of existing kernel before starting the refresh. reason for this is that the kernel included with the installation media is older than the current kernel.

Yes, after posting the query, I had updated the Kernel and proceeded with the install - I was able to log in, change DDIC password to the one I have entered during install parameter phase and complete successfully.
